Plants Arrangement In Your Garden

The first thing in garden making is the choice of a place. Without a choice, it simply means making the best possible conditions. With space limited it resolves itself into no garden or yard box. Surely a box garden is better than nothing. But we now assume that we can actually choose the right place for the garden. What should be chosen? The biggest factor is the sun. Nobody would have a north corner, if not absolutely forced upon him because, while north corners do for ferns, certain wild flowers, and begonias, they are of little use as spots for a garden in general.

If possible, choose the ideal of a southern exposure. Here the sun is warm all day. When the garden is therefore the rows of vegetables and flowers should run north and south. Thus placed, the plants receive the sun all morning on the east side, and all afternoon on the west side. We should not have plants with such an unbalanced arrangement. Suppose that the garden facing southeast. In this case, the sun is out the problem. To get the best distribution of sunlight run the rows northwest and southeast.

The idea is to get the most sunlight as evenly distributed as possible for the longest period of time. The uneven growth of window plants it is easy enough to see the effect on plants of poorly distributed light. So if you use a little diagram to remind you that the sun would shine in the day on one side of the plant and part on another, you can juggle at any situation. The southern exposure gives the ideal case, since the sun gives half time nearly to each side. A northern exposure may mean a reduction almost completely off from sunlight; places while the south-west north-east and still get an uneven distribution of sunlight, no matter how carefully it is planned.

The garden, if possible, should be planned on paper. The plan is a great help when the time is the actual planting. You save time and unnecessary buying of seed.
