“Spoiled children”. Thus a Roselyne Bachelot angry described it, a few days ago, who had already decided not to volunteer to be vaccinated against the new virus responsible for the current pandemic influenza. In calling for the reason of each and every Minister of Health spoke to the leaders of the French pharmaceutical industry. Remember that the French government this summer, took the decision to purchase (for about one billion euros) one hundred million doses of this vaccine so that (two doses per person) every French who wish to be protected. The Minister of Health will soon learn what is the current percentage of “spoiled children” within the French medical profession. What formula is she then to describe the behavior of doctors, hospitals or GPs who refuse to be vaccinated, doctors who corollary, show little enthusiasm to encourage patients (or their team members) to do.
This trend was denied, here and there began to be seen in recent weeks. It is now amply confirmed with a poll which Slate.fr gives a preview of the results. The survey was conducted under the auspices of three organizations that are not (quite the contrary!) Against the new influenza vaccination (1). The national study focused on the 3530 responses collected between 17 and October 27. The results are bound to irritate Roselyne Bachelot worry as all those who have the responsibility of the national influenza vaccination.
Summarized.
* In France today more than one doctor in three (36.8%) said they did not want to be vaccinated (33.4% in hospital, 41.8% among liberals).
* Among those opposed to vaccination, they are 70.3% to fear the possible effects of “adjuvants” in vaccines.
* 60% critical of the principle of dual vaccine injection to be practiced in three weeks apart.
* More worrying perhaps, they are 71% of the third physician to fear the possible vaccine complications.
Summarize again. All those who volunteer to be vaccinated are not activists intent on spreading the word immunization.
Thus nearly 24% of hospital doctors will not promoting vaccination among team members. 28% “no opinion” on this point. More important, perhaps, even among liberals on messages to their patients these proportions are 25 and 33%.
Without doubt it is too early to speak of failure. A sudden worsening of the epidemiological situation or (as was recently observed in different countries) staging media unexplained deaths (involving young people infected previously in good health) could probably change the current situation. It is nevertheless true that we are today in France in a situation doubly unique. One discovers that no significant fraction of the medical profession refuses to protect themselves (and thus protect patients) against the risk of viral infection.
And we discover at the same time an even larger fraction of that body refuses to play a traditional role, since the miracle anti-infective Louis Pasteur, is his: the precious, d ‘ essential bridge between educational authorities and population health. It is as if in tandem with a “French identity crisis” the French medical lived form, always dangerous, of split personality.
